Sip the summer away at $4.99/bottle.
Maybe I am a bit optimistic. I mean summer unofficially began
on Memorial Day. But with this weather who knows? It changes 10
degrees in California from day to day and then my daughter comes
home from a trip to Chicago and Wisconsin and is sunburnt!
I went into the warehouse and selected four great summer sippers
for this week's email special. Each with a different profile, but
all perfect to enjoy in late afternoon, as a sun-setting aperitif,
or as a perfect match for a light summer dinner.
Of course, I kept in mind the sentimental favorites of the membership
to guide my selections.
The Painted Van Pinot Grigio is almost gone...only 90 cases left!
Such a great example of the grape from an unusual Pinot Grigio location:
Washington State. Layered aromas of kiwi, grapefruit, anise and
spice mingle with the luscious guava and peach flavors on a bright
palate with good acidity. I have regular customers that walk into
our shop just for this wine.
The Dancing Derby Sauvignon Blanc has developed so nicely in
the bottle. Citrus, herbs and minerals make this wine a classic
candidate for the late afternoon "on the veranda" sipper.
Hey, wait---I don't have a veranda...guess I'll just have to drink
it on the patio!
Chenin Blanc has long been a summer favorite. The Santa Barbara
Crossing version is a classic California version. Hints of tangerine,
lime and spice; the light body and layered flavors create a great
combination when slightly chilled...dare I say a "squeeze of
lime?" (Who said that?). Here is also a Napa Valley version
from Ballentine. Leaner with more acidity than the Santa Barbara,
this wine has a mid-palate with more candy flavors coming through.
Get them while it's hot! At $4.99...cannot go wrong.
