April 1974 Selection of California Wine

FRENCH COLOMBARD - SONOMA VINEYARDS

The French Colombard of Sonoma Vineyards is a 100% var¬ietal wine of bright golden color and charming dry taste. Grown widely throughout California, French Colombard grapes make their finest statement in the cool north coast wine dis¬trict, of which Sonoma County is the center. In this temper¬ate coastal region, the grapes develop an excellent sugar/acid balance that produces a very clear, well balanced character. Sonoma Vineyards ferments their Colombard in temperature cont¬rolled tanks and ages it in small French Limousin oak barrels. The result is an outstanding, example of this wine. Sonoma Vineyards French Colombard is ready to enjoy now; it need not be aged.

We recommend it highly whenever a dry white wine is des¬ired to complement seafood (especially Louis salads), white meat and fowl dishes and creamed sauces. Serve it well chilled in traditional burgundy-style glasses. $2.49/fifth

April 1974 Selection of Imported Wine

BOUJALAIS VILLAGES MARQUISAT

A superior example of a French Beaujolais Villages -this northern area of the Beaujolais region is composed of 36 villages who produce this wine with a shade more strength (13%), character, and style.

A deep red, fruity, light bodied wine with a clean fin¬ish. The wine we bring you comes form the village of Saint-Lager by the well known negotiants Pasquier Desvignes, operat¬ing as wine brokers since 1420. It is made from the Gamay grape.

Beaujolais wines must be drunk young, and not aged. Serve with light red meats, luncheons, and salads with meat in them. Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled. "Let me refill you glass" was the watchword of inn-keepers of yore in Beauj¬olais. Shall we! $3.99/fifth

A Wine Buying Evaluation Panel has been started by our wine manager. It meets occasionally to evaluate wines presented to us for inclusion in our inventory and wines we are considering discontinuing. The twenty point evaluation system is used. If you are interested in participating please give Paul Kalemkiarian, a call at 375-5116.
