Of course, you can't have Bordeaux from New Zealand! Bordeaux is a piece of ground and Bordeaux wine must come from Bordeaux, France! Well, it is so unusual to taste a red wine from New Zealand made from the Bordeaux varieties, I had to say it. This is a very nice wine. Not over done. Not too dry. The reason there is just not that many wines like this made in New Zealand is because it is generally too cool for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the like but these grapes were grown in a warmer part of New Zealand and have produced a very elegant wine with nice acid and balance. The winery folks were in Los Angeles this week and I had a chance to taste their wine LIVE (sort of!)....check out the below video for the Woolshed Red segment. Because of its low production, I bought all that is in the US and you probably won't see another opportunity like this for awhile. Just too unusual. Just a great wine experience.
