The Dise?o family has delivered the quintessential Malbec from Mendoza for many years. They are now expanding their position with a new flagship white wine, Torrontes. Torrontes is typically known for rich floral aromas and refreshing crisp, clean flavors.
Salta is the premier region in Argentina best suited to growing Torrontes. It is the northern-most wine region in Argentina and boasts the highest altitude. "Salta" translates into "the most beautiful", and the sky-high scenery is a beautiful combination of the high-altitude rainforest, the National Parks and vineyards.
This surreally beautiful northwest province punctuated by mountains and canyons also offers first-rate wineries, superb colonial architecture, and miles of open road. This Argentinian wine region is probably where it all began. It was here that Jesuit missionaries first planted grape seeds from Peru in the 1550's, having failed with an earlier attempt near Buenos Aires.
The reason they succeeded was surely down to the altitude of the vineyards, which tempers the ferocious heat and allows for cold nights even in mid-summer. In the Calchaqu? Valley it can easily swing from 100?F at noon to a cool 54?F around midnight, while during the short winter it can plunge as low as 21?F at night.
Cafayate's vineyards are at 5,600 feet, nearly 2,000 feet higher than those of the Valais in Switzerland, which is the highest in Europe. But if that is not enough, the El Arenal vineyard on the Colom? estate is another even more remote valley in Salta that stands at 10,027 feet in elevation. It claims a world record in terms of the highest vineyard on the planet.
Small batches of our Torrontes grapes were fermented in stainless steel then selectively blended to produce the signature Dise?o style wine. Vibrant fruit flavors are handcrafted from mature mountain-grown grapes with impeccable balance, ready to enjoy immediately. Our selection does not go through the traditional malolactic fermentation, which converts the tart malic acid into lactic, which is much softer. That allows the wine more acidity which is needed to balance the rich fruit flavors.
Our selection is pale straw in color with an explosive floral bouquet of apricots and tropical fruit. Citrus fruit flavors unfold on the palate with unexpected minerals and crisp, searing acidity.
