SEBASTIANI CABERNET SAUVIGNON

The Sebastiani Winery in Sonoma is one of the oldest family owned wineries in California. From its small beginnings in 1904, until 1954, its pro¬duction was mostly of bulk wine. Over the years from that time on, the wines of Sebastiani have never ceased to improve; Sebastiani Cabernet Sau¬vignon is no exception. Made for the true wine lover, this wine is endowed with a hearty, full bouquet and a strong, sturdy flavor. Its full bodied, taste is very reminiscent of the petite chateaux of France. This wine is best complimen¬ted when served with meals of red meats, or with cheese and fresh fruit, always at room temperature 68-72°. $4.00/fifth

PASQUIER-DESVIGNES' MARQUISAT BEAUJOLAIS BLANC

The Beaujolais district of France lies just south of Macon, along the Saone River and west to the foothills of the Monts-du-Beaujolais. The vines from which Marquisat Beaujolais Blanc is made are grown around the small town of St. Lager which is itself, within the well known ate de Brouilly region of Beaujolais. Marquisat Beauj¬olais Blanc is a light, fruity, sprite young wine. You'll find its spicy flavor best enjoyed when served with light meals of lamb, fowl or fish al-though also pleasing with lighter red meat meals. Beaujolais Blanc should always be served cool but never cold, 60-65°. $3.99/fifth

ALSATIAN WINES

Among France's many gems are the light, white wines of Alsace.

Alsatian wines are sometimes called "French Rhine Wines," though in actuality they more resemble Ger¬many's Moselles in their freshness and purity. As with all the best French wines they bear the design¬ation of an Appellation Controlee, the French Gov¬ernment's guarantee of high quality; but unlike most other French wines, they are not named for a piece of geography but after the grape variety from which they are made. With one or two insignificant excep¬tions, all Alsatian wines are white. Serving them chilled you should find that they go marvelously well with seafood, pork, poultry and salads. The following are the principal varietal types:

Sylvaner: Made from a famous German grape. Dry and pleasantly soft.

Riesling: Universally acknowledged as one of the greatest white grapes of the world. This wine is distinguished by its finesse and body. Like the Sylvaner, it is also dry.

Traminer: Another German grape. Its wine is fruity and mellow, sometimes with a faint touch of sweetness.

Gewurztraminer: The Gewurztraminer grape is a refinement of the Traminer. Gewurz in German means "spicy" and the wine, piquant and full, is endowed with an outstanding, delightful bouquet.
