Red Bandana is a delicious, fruity, easy-drinking red wine blend including Syrah, Zinfandel and Grenache, sourced from premium California vineyards.
The winemaking team is headed by Steve Rued. Born in Healdsburg, California and raised on his family's vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley, Steve graduated with a degree in fermentation science from U.C. Davis. After a year at Kenwood Vineyards, he ventured to South Africa to work for Stellenbosch Farmer's Winery. In 2000, he returned to Kenwood Vineyards as the Winemaker and joined Rutherford Wine Company in 2005.
Tyson Wolf is the Associate Winemaker. A St. Helena native, he developed an early passion for winemaking by helping his father make home wine. Tyson graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He began his winemaking career at William Hill Winery and later at Mumm Napa. He joined Rutherford Wine Company in 2003 and was named Assistant Winemaker in 2007 and Associate Winemaker in 2010.
Red Bandana is part of the Rutherford Wine Company portfolio. Uncompromising and ecologically far-sighted viticulture is an ethical imperative for the RWC team. Though more labor intensive than prevalent commercial winegrowing methods, their efforts are rewarded with fruit rich in flavor and character. Great fruit is a prerequisite for great wine.
This unique blend has a kind of Rhone Valley feel to it, similar to what you would find in a Cotes du Rhone wine. The addition of Zinfandel gives a fascinating dimension to the wine and adds that unmistakable strawberry charm we love.
The 2011 grape harvest, according to The Wine Institute, was lighter because of the wet winters and springs and longer than normal cool summers. The extra time the grapes were on the vine yielded flavorful fruit with excellent color at lower alcohol levels. Our varietal has bright fruit aromas of ripe raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. Mouth-filling juicy flavors of cranberry, strawberry and baking spice with a hint of sweetness. It has a smooth, lingering finish. This easy-drinking wine is perfect anytime and pairs well with pub-style meals of grilled sausage, mashed potatoes, herb-roasted chicken and lamb chops or grilled veggie and spicy Indian curries. Try it with cheddar cheeses or chocolate cheesecake for dessert.
