This beauty is fashioned similarly to the Pinot Grigio we featured several years ago. The only difference is that it's better. Still from the Columbia Valley in Washington, this vintage seems more vibrant and with more detailed fruit than the last one.

Peralta got the grapes from Airfield Wine Estates in Prosser, Washington. Airfield Estates uses exclusively 100% estate grown fruit. The first vines were planted in 1968 by Don Miller. Today, the estate vineyard spans over 860 acres and includes 27 different varieties.

The vineyard is located at the foot of the Rattlesnake Mountains in the Yakima Valley. All of the vineyard blocks are situated within a 3 mile radius of the original WWII airbase. Within this range, there is a considerable amount of diversity of soil and microclimatic conditions. To maximize quality, they carefully match grape varietals to the most suitable sites.

The interaction of the geographic, climatic and environmental conditions in conjunction with the vineyard management directly affects the quality and personality of their wine. The Airfield Estates Vineyard is located in the heart of the Yakima Valley. The valley is located in the South-Central portion of the state and is approximately equidistant from Seattle, Portland and Spokane. It sits on the same parallel as the famous Bordeaux region of France and some of its vineyards are amongst the best in the state. In total, there are over 11,000 acres of vineyards in the Yakima Valley making Yakima Valley the largest producer of wine grapes in Washington State.

Today, the 2nd generation of Miller's are in charge of the winery and vineyards. Most of their grapes are contracted to other wineries, like Peralta, but they treat each batch as if it were their own. The grapes were sourced from multiple vineyard sites on the property to bring in specific aromas and flavors that each site offers. Layered aromas of kiwi and grapefruit, accented with an herbal note and hints of anise and spice, mingle with the luscious guava flavors on a bright palate with good acidity. An excellent aperitif and accompaniment to a wide array of foods; enjoy with chicken, shellfish and pasta with cream sauces or just relax on a summer evening and have it all by itself.
