The first thing we think of when we hear the word Transylvania is, well, not wine. Which, of course, why we were so intrigued when the salesman brought this wine to us. It is nothing short of spectacular with flavors rivaling wines from much more expensive addresses.
The producer of Prahova Valley Chardonnay is Halewood-Romania, a subdivision of Halewood-International in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Halewood International Group was founded in 1978 by John Halewood. Today, the Group is the largest independent wine producer and distributor in the United Kingdom. Within such wine diversity, Halewood-Romania is able to provide the domestic and international markets with high quality wines, all of them with clearly defined personality. It is not an accident that Halewood-Romania is the wine supplier of the Romanian Royal family.
Yellow color with green hues, this wine combines fine vanilla and coconut flavors with tropical fruits, mango and passion fruit aromas. Our Chardonnay, coming from the famous Sebes-Apold vineyard on Transylvania Plateau, is a round wine which displays the typical fragrances of the variety with the elegance of the oak. The wine has been aged in American oak barrels. It is a full-bodied wine, characterized and ideally served with white meat dishes prepared with complex French sauces or dishes with an Asian flare.
