Glen Carlou is situated in the heart of South Africa's scenic Paarl Valley. The warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters of this area combine with an exciting variety of slopes and the riches of the soils to create unique winegrowing conditions.
Glen Carlou was established in 1985 and since 2003 has been successfully owned and run by Hess Family Estates. The winery is dedicated to sustainable farming. They boast a strong element of the group's philosophy of 'being custodians of the land and preserving it for future generations'. Their approach is clearly one of not manipulating, but rather farming in harmony with Nature. Glen Carlou's worldwide reputation for quality wines has been built on the mission of delivering handcrafted wines reflecting their distinctive soils.
The Integrity & Sustainability seal is the result of collaboration between the Wine & Spirits Board, IPW, as well as the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI) and Wines of South Africa (WOSA) with the generic marketing body responsible for the worldwide launch of the concept as part of its Brand South Africa campaign. Together these organizations are driving the South African wine industry's commitment to sustainable eco-friendly production. They're not just advocating green, they are practicing it!
The South Africa wine industry launched the world's first sustainability seal as a guarantee of eco-friendly production. Issued by the Wine and Spirit Board, the seal intended for bottled wines only and is backed by a sophisticated tracking system in which the bottle contents can be traced back to source at every stage of the supply chain to confirm the integrity of their production.
Glen Carlou has qualified to use this seal, effective from the 2010 harvest, as they have successfully obtained accreditation of the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) set of principles at farm, winery and bottling levels. IPW covers a range of issues such as integrated pest management, the health of workers, the conservation of biodiversity and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Fermented in French oak barrels and matured for ten months, this wine rewards your palate with rich well-rounded fruity flavors that is harmoniously balanced with well-integrated oak. It is a sure fire winner with scallops in a tomato concasse.
