The Godwin Family is committed to producing world-class Sonoma County wines using the expertise and skill of founding Godwin winemaker Kerry Damskey. Kerry is recognized on four continents for his acuity and focus in creating brilliant wines. His talent as a winemaker lies in his ability to create a unique statement from a vineyard. Utilizing two unique vineyard sources and Kerry's 'fingertip' style of winemaking, Godwin Family Vineyards produces small quantities of two luxury varietals, a Russian River Valley Chardonnay and a Sonoma Valley Merlot.

The Godwin Merlot is produced primarily from the Nelson Vineyard in the foothills of Sonoma Mountain in Bennett Valley. Bennett Valley has long been recognized as an appellation well suited to production of great Merlot grapes due to its cool climate and hillside terroirs. The appellation produces Bordeaux-style wines with excellent structure balanced with richness and integrated tannins.

If anybody knows how to make great wine its Kerry Damskey. Kerry was doing just that in one of the most difficult areas in California in which to do so, Temecula. His wines stood out above the rest, so when he gets to play in one of the best sandboxes in California, the sky can only be the limit.

Kerry grew up with an interest in wine as his father introduced him to wines at an early age in the hopes that his son would be a winemaker. The ruse worked as Kerry is now one of the most respected winemakers in California. He is a graduate from the University of California, Davis with a B.S. in fermentation sciences. By completing this intensive program for small business at Stanford University School of Business, he is a candidate of the Institute of the Masters of Wine. We'd say he made his dad proud and we're proud to offer this superb selection.

This is very serious wine. Inky black in color defines its intensity among with aromas of ripe black cherry, cedar and cinnamon with a hint of desert sage. These enticing smells remind us of a warm high plateau evening. Initially, the palate is treated to a fine silkiness that transcends into a luscious and jam-like mouthful of rich and elegant flavors true to its Pomerol profile. This is Merlot as Merlot is meant to be. Enjoy with smoked brisket.
