Tierra del Sol is the handiwork of Bodegas y Vi?edos de Aguirre, a family owned winery with vineyards located close to the picturesque town of Villa Alegre, in the heart of the Maule Valley, 250 miles south of Santiago. They have 800 acres of grapes with a modern technical system of drip irrigation.
Today, Don Pedro F?lix de Aguirre's dream is carried on by his family. Bodegas y Vi?edos de Aguirre S.A. was founded by Don Pedro F?lix de Aguirre is cared and managed by his wife, Ana Mar?a and her 7 children, all of them professionals and executives of the winery.
The first vine stocks were brought to Chile by the Spanish priest Francisco de Carabantes in 1548. A few years later, Francisco de Aguirre planted the first vineyards and produced the first harvest in 1551. It was not until the mid-nineteenth century that Chile saw a significant transformation of its winemaking industry when a number of wealthy families introduced top-quality vine stocks, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec.
From generation to generation, the art of winemaking in Chile has evolved and improved to where it has now earned a world-class reputation. Five hundred years of history and tradition guarantee that our winery will keep its promise of quality in every single bottle.
The soils here are composed from volcanic ash, which consists of sand and sandy loam soil. The vineyards are flat and receive excellent exposure to sunlight. The fields are carefully controlled to produce concentrated wines of excellent quality and elegance.
The vineyards as well as the Villa Alegre enjoy an exceptional Mediterranean type climate. Winter rains are normal and summers are dry. The accentuated variations in temperature between day and night allow the grapes to develop with a strong ripe tannin, great flavors and excellent color concentration.
This wine has an intense ruby color. It's a fine example of a complex wine with ripe fruits and hints of hazelnut and chocolate. It is a powerful and concentrated wine with tannins that are ripe and elegant. It matches red meats, beef, roast beef and strong cheeses.
