Chateau la Coudraie is owned by Monsieur and Madame Jean-Marc Jolivet. The Chateau has been in the her family for five generations. This land is quite special, located on the rolling hills of the eastern Entre-Deux-Mers, just at the foot of the "Butte de Launay", the highest point in the Gironde. The cellars are modern and functional, having been completely renovated in 1987.

Chateau La Coudraie is one of those great, majestic estates that are so abundant in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. Jean-Marc and Catherine Jolivet inherited it in 1981. This dynamic couple, who adopt a hands-on operational approach in the vineyard and the ch?teau, have always been ahead of their time. Thus, the Jolivets were blazing a trail when they built their water treatment plant as a nature conservation measure. They were also among the first in Bordeaux to use screw caps.

Entre Deux Mers literally means "between two seas" but it is not exactly between two seas. It is actually between two rivers: Dordogne and Garonne. These rivers are the main tributaries of the Bordeaux River, which divides the region between what is called the Left Bank and the Right Bank.

The vineyards are located on south-facing slopes just to the west of the village of Soussac in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers. 200 acres comprise the estate of which 150 are planted with red and 40 with white varieties. The soil is mostly clay and limestone and the average age of the vines are between 20 and 25 years old.

This white is the classic blend of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon, and 20% Muscadelle. It works perfectly with the soils available, as well it should. They've been practicing for nearly 500 years.

This lovely offering starts out as though it will be bigger than it ends up. The Sauvignon Blanc is obvious in the nose, but taste bursts of the softening effects of the Semillon and Muscadelle. A lively match for muscles in a garlic and white wine broth.
