The inbred world of California wine personifies the old adage, "It's not about what you know, it's about who you know." With more than a decade of experience in the wine industry, and an enviable record of business training, Reed Renaudin has built a pioneering winery (X Winery) on an interwoven series of strategic partnerships and relationships. He specifically contracts with the best, most suitable vineyards in California. Reed has been involved in the wine industry since 1996. He founded Amicus & X Winery in 2001 and has helped guide this start up company's rapid growth. Reed has an MBA from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a BS from UC Davis. He has also completed extensive graduate research in Enology at UC Davis, and has presented his works at the American Society of Enology and Viticulture's annual meeting. His resume is highlighted with viticulture experience working for Gallo of Sonoma, and enology experience working for Napa Valley wineries including Heitz and Cuvaison. Reed also has winemaking experience with Cape Clairault Wines in Australia. Nestled in the heart of the Napa Valley, just north of St. Helena, sits a premium block of vineyards known for growing Bordeaux varieties, those being Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec. Though most are known for full-bodied, signature Cabernet Sauvignons, the 400 wineries in the Napa Valley produce a range of wines including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc among others. Cabernet Franc is the under appreciated hero in many blends of Bordeaux varietals. It adds its own very unique cranberry and current flavors without overpowering the other varietals. It's both engaging and authoritative, a very unique quality and one we appreciated very much. Our selection features notes of raspberry and gooseberry on the nose followed by flavors of chocolate, cinnamon and spicy black currant give this wine depth. Big and bold with round tannins and a smooth finish, this blend has a plush and velvety mouth feel. February Limited Series Newsletter (.pdf)
