Santa Lucia is part of the Castellani wine empire. It was established in Montecalvoli at the end of the 19th century when Alfred Castellani, a long-standing wine grower, decided to start bottling and selling his wine. In 1903 the business was officially registered at the Chamber of Commerce in Pisa. Since then the family has been exporting wines from Tuscany. The company has evolved over the decades, but the philosophy of their work has remained the same "The quality of the wine begins in the vineyard" A mixed group of workers here consists of several generations, where the experience of the older employees comes alive with the vitality and spirit of the young.

Santa Lucia Toscana White is made with Trebbiano Toscano and Chardonnay grapes. The two varieties blend well to give birth to a pleasant Mediterranean white wine with great aromatic complexity. The hand-picked grapes are soft-crushed and processed at low temperatures. Clarification is at a controlled temperature. The clean product is filtered and fermented at 45 degrees F. When fermentation is complete the wine is stored underground in tanks at a consistent low temperature before bottling.

For years, Trebbiano was used in red Chianti to add acidity to the wine because the red grapes became so ripe that the acid levels were too low to make a balanced wine. It was the law. Grape growing practices evolved to where the red grapes could be produced with the proper acidity so the laws were changed and the wine could be called Chianti without the use of Trebbiano. This left a lot of Trebbiano with no home, so enterprising operations like Castellani learned to make terrific wine on its own and with careful blending like this one.

Our selection exhibits a bright color with green hues. The sweet tropical notes of pineapple and banana are complemented by floral fragrances of acacia and herbs. Dry and full of character with a distinct acidity on the palate, this is ideal match with chicken salad, fish courses and appetizers. Serve chilled.
