After 25 years of wine label design in Napa Valley, Susan and Craig Handly realized that producing their own wines was a natural progression they had unknowingly been headed toward. They stepped out into the brilliant sunlight in 2001, with the release of Terroir Napa Valley 2001, Cabernet and took off running. Terroir Napa Valley consists of single vineyard selections of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a blend, Dusty Red added in. Craig Handly is an outstanding winemaker.

Their second label, Pool Boy, takes advantage of the hidden gems they find in Napa, Carneros, the Russian River, and Anderson Valley. Pool Boy 2010, Chardonnay was harvested from the ocean breeze influenced Oak Knoll region of the Napa Valley. Oak Knoll at the mouth of the Napa Valley just east of the famous Carneros region is a cooler growing region influenced by evening breezes that come off of San Pablo Bay and deliver summer fog into the upper reaches of the Napa Valley, extending the growing season.

Chardonnay is the world's favorite white grape variety. Its home is Burgundy, France where it reaches its pinnacle of perfection as well as price. It is also known as Aubaine, Beaunois and Melon Blanc. Its styles vary from fresh, light unoaked wines produced in cooler regions to rich, tropical fruit wines from the New World.

The 2010 crop was below normal in size and the fruit ripened beautifully. This Pool Boy Chardonnay was fermented in stainless steel and aged only two months in French oak to pick up only moderate vanilla and nutmeg aromas. Pear, melon and honeysuckle flavors prevail in a great expression of Chardonnay. As the name Pool Boy suggests, this is a summer poolside Napa Valley white wine designed to accompany those who enjoy their Chardonnay. Great with smoked salmon or fish and chips.
