Tucked away, deep in the recesses of the Napa Valley you'll find one of California's secret treasures. Pope Valley is one of the fastest growing wine regions in America, yet it still retains that peaceful, country feel. With over a century of history, the Pope Valley Winery elicits the feel of the early California pioneer lifestyle and provides our visitors with a chance to reflect back on simpler times.
Pope Valley Winery was founded in 1897 by Ed Haus. The winery is a showcase of 19th century winemaking technology; the main building situated on top of the Haus Creek that meanders through the property so as to conserve usable land rises three stories against a hillside. This allows the winery to use gravity to move the wine from stemmer/crusher to press and barrel.
The winery is built into the hillside to create cave like cool temperatures and higher humidity for the bottom barrel room. Also on the property is the original homestead family house and a blacksmiths workshop with century old equipment inside.
Pope Valley Winery handcrafts wine from their estate vineyards on Eakle Ranch and the nearby Meyercamp Ranch in the Pope Valley Region of Napa Valley. Pope Valley Winery is situated above Napa Valley on the northern face of Howell Mountain. Pope Valley Winery is noted for its Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve, Zinfandel Port and Chenin Blanc.
The Meyercamp Ranch is a sixty acre ranch owned by Henry Eakle who purchased it from the Meyercamp brothers in 1995. The Meyercamp Ranch has five acres planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and four acres to Chenin Blanc. The Meyercamp Chenin Blanc vines are sixty years old.
Our selection is a 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. It's all stainless steel ferment to keep a crisp profile. The Sauvignon Blanc was sourced from Rutherford.
Chenin Blanc played a key role in California's wine history. It was the workhorse white that could be, and was, planted almost anywhere, producing a fresh, clean and flavorful offering. This Haus Chenin Blanc is a cut above the rest. It offers all the tactile and engaging fruit components of great Chenin with even more complexity and character.
