This selection is a sensational wine from one of our favorite wineries in Paso Robles, Tarrica. The owner, Sam Balakian, has been crafting superb wines here for over 50 years and hasn't lost his touch.
Sam realized early on that Paso Robles had certain limits in that it was warmer than most areas and certain varietals just didn't thrive as well as others. This is a fact that, unfortunately, was lost on so many other winemakers.
So, Sam only made wines from Paso that would stand up to the climate. The cooler grapes like Chardonnay and Riesling came from the cooler climates of Monterey and Santa Lucia. As a result, his reds have the power of Paso while the whites are delicately scented and beautifully constructed.
This Chardonnay represents his crowning achievement. It comes from one of the most heralded areas for this grape in California, the Santa Lucia Highlands. It is in this region where many of the finest and most extravagant Chardonnays are made.
Here is a stunning example of Chardonnay with the pear and peach nose through weight and lushness on the palate. Finally, a creamy, elongated finish. All the flavors, all the flowers, and all the flourish are there in the glass.
A sheer delight and one of our favorite examples for sure!
