We feature 144 different wines per year. We want to give you as much information as possible on each wine because we feel it enhances the pleasure of the wine when you know the story behind it. Most of the wineries we feature are happy to give us that information. Every so often, we have an occurrence when the winery sends us information that makes us go, "WOW!"

Well, the "wow" about this wine is that it's the same winemaker as Chateau La Nerthe in Chateuneuf-du-Pape. There are a lot of great properties here, but La Nerthe was the very first one to ever be written about some 600 years ago.

Obviously, history plays an important part here. The property fell into disrepair and was brought back to life in the late 1980s by a wealthy businessman. He loved the history and wanted to bring it back to itsformer glory. He did so in spades.

This wine may be labeled Cotes du Rhone but it screams Chateuneuf-du-Pape. It is made from the same grapes Grenache,Syrah, Cinsault, and Carignan. The difference is that they are grown in prime areas and crafted by a prominent winemaker.

The result is a massive offering of intense black fruit, smoke, rose petals, earth, and spice whirling around on your palate with no intention of dissipating. It is truly without equal in the Rhone.
