Since its inception in 1964, Vignerons Catalans had one goal in mind; promote the wines of France's Cotes du Roussillon district. They have succeeded incredibly well. Today they own 25,000 acres of grapes across several contacts and produce more than 3 million cases of wine per year.

Domaine Cayrou is part of the Catalans cooperative. It also reflects the strong values which define them; the most important is their commitment to the soil and especially their Spanish roots in Catalonia, Spain. This is truly a multi-national effort.

From the hills of Corbi?res to the Pyr?n?es Mountains, Roussillon is the sunniest region in France. The climate, the history and the traditions of Roussillon make it more similar to Spain than to Languedoc. The vineyards of Roussillon are dominated by the appellation of C?tes du Roussillon together with the more restricted C?tes du Roussillon Villages; Latour-de-France and Caramany. The wines are warm and rugged, like the countryside. Village cooperatives dominate production with Catalans being one of the most important.

The vineyards of Roussillon are ancient, their origins lost in history. Various sources credit the Greeks, the Romans and even Hannibal and his warrior elephants with the introduction and subsequent development of viticulture in the region. The soils baked by the hot Mediterranean sun are fabulously diverse with areas of quartz and gneiss scattered between the more common black schist, limestone and clay. There is infrequent rainfall, and what does fall quickly evaporates, the effect of the sun and the Tramontane, the blustery wind that blows from the northwest on many days of the year.

Our selection is a unique blend of 25% Grenache Blanc, 25% Vermentino, 25% Marsanne and 25% Roussanne. It was bottled very young so that it develops the freshest and most aromatic aromas. The wine shows off citrus, white flowers and exotic fruits. The initial impression in the mouth is straightforward with a snappy, citrus finish. Great with shellfish in simple presentations such as butter and lemon.
