This estate is in the lush rolling hills of one of Portugal's most famous wine producing areas, the Tejo. Quinta da Lapa was founded over 300 years ago, but is now owned by third generation producer and Portugal native, Jaime Quendera. He continued his family's tradition by earning a Ph.D in wine marketing as well as an undergraduate degree in agricultural engineering.

Jamie began his career in 1994, working with many of the finest oenologists in the area and eventually became one of them, consulting for several wineries, before going back to the family operation. Hisreputation has advanced as well, earning winemaking awards in his native country, and also in Asia, the US, and even France.

The winery lies along the banks of the Tejo River, which is the border between a part of Spain and Portugal. The Tejo region, formerly known as Ribatejo, goes back to the Roman times, where the wineculture was revered and practiced almost like a religion. Roman ruins, Gothic castles, Manueline monasteries, and medieval villages can be found throughout the region. The Tejo is one of the oldestwine producing regions in Portugal, and the influence of past grape-growers is evident in the architecture and culture.

Our selection is made from 40% Touriga Nacional, a star in Portugal, as well as Syrah and Alicante Bouschet. It is a dark, brooding wine that sees some oak to soften up the hard edges, but still haspower to spare.
