Just as I thought, some expensive vinegars are lousy and some inexpensive versions are great.

This was the "hands down" favorite of the panel. Melina's Balsamic Vinegar (250ml) from Modena; smooth with a balanced tartness. I pour this "solo" on my salad. Delivered in a handsome linen gift box.
