July 2018 Classic, Limited and Vintners Series Wine Tasting

Dear Wine Lover,

Cyril Chirouze, director of winemaking at Château des Jacques, stops by the Wine of the Month Club studio to share a collection of distinctive Beaujolais wines.

Cyril studied winemaking and wine growing in the south of France, moving to Beaujolais in 2006 to get hands-on experience in the vineyards there. He has a passion for the native wine grapes of Beaujolais and its unique terroir of volcanic soils. After working at the wineries of Domaine Piron and Château de Marsannay, Cyril then moved on to Chateau des Jacques, where he has been crafting elegant wines for the past 10 years.

Salud,
PK

Today, we welcome Cyril Chirouze, director of winemaking at Château des Jacques to our studio.

Classic Series Wines For July 2018
A gripping Cabernet Sauvignon from Vino de la Tierra de Castilla in Spain, Pig & Poke wows us with its powerful black fruit and blackberry flavors. On the lighter side, we taste a beautifully expressive Piquepoul. Typically, these wines are too expensive to feature in this club, but we got an incredible deal.

Vintners Series Wines For July 2018
This month, we feature two nicely balanced, fruit-forward Chilean wines from Mecedora: a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Merlot. Le Charmel's Sauvignon Blanc has a crisp acidity and hints of grapefruit and lime, while our L'Conti offering is a Classic Pays d'Oc Chardonnay, expressing the minerality of its terroir.

Limited Series Wines For July 2018
Our selection from Maquis is truly rare: a Cabernet Franc from Chile! It's leaner, with more cranberry flavor and a different texture than the more common Cabernet Sauvignons from the region. Willems Willems' Pinot Blanc, from Mosel, Germany, has clean citrus and mineral flavors, perfect for pairing with white fish.
