June 2018 Classic, Limited and Vintners Series Wine Tasting
Dear Wine Lover,
Today, we welcome Cheryl Francis of A to Z Wineworks and Rex Hill Winery to our studio. Cheryl has a longtime interest in biodynamics and the natural processes of winemaking. She began her career in Oregon's Willamette Valley, where she planted her first vineyard in the late 1990s.
In 2002, A to Z Wineworks was born, a partnership between Cheryl, her husband, Sam Tannahill, and wine industry veterans Deb and Bill Hatcher. From their first vintage, A to Z has consistently released impressive wines, receiving multiple honors for their Pinot Noirs, from both Food & Wine Magazine and Wine Spectator. Accolades like "Best Pinot Noir in the U.S." and "Best Pinot Noir Under $20" have made Cheryl's wines bestsellers – and for good reason.
Salud,
PK
We start off with a perfect Lodi Zinfandel by Castle Tower, with big, bold flavors of brambleberry, strawberry and plum – and just a hint of mint. And can we talk about how great Clarksburg, California is for Chenin Blanc? Our PAF selection sings, with notes of apricots, pineapple and a little bit of white peach.
Listerne et Frigoulas is another beautiful Pays d'Oc red blend from the master winemakers at Mas Pellier. Mecedora's unoaked Chardonnay from Chile is delicious, with a style that's more French than Californian. Lyeth, meanwhile, never fails to deliver – a beautifully extracted and expressive offering.
Ed thinks In Vino Erotico's claim of being "an emotional wine" is kind of silly…until he tastes this incredible wine from the Languedoc. Our Cabernet from Paso Robles, Big Red, is everything its name suggests: strong and flavorful. And Château des Eyssards' white Bordeaux delights, with hints of kiwi and guava.
