July 1974 Selection of California Wine

The Concorso Enologico lnternazionale (International Wine Competition) held recently in Milan, Italy, awarded Russ Greene's Simi winery two gold medals. One of them was for their Johannisberg Riesling 1972 (Alexander Valley). Only two American table ones were selected from the 800 entrants world wide and both were Simi. We bring you this delightful California counterpart of the famous Rhine wines of Germany so deservingly honored in Milan. A refreshing wine, pronounced fragrance of bouquet, and a rich, satis¬fying flavor. (An interesting comparison would be with last months imported wine of the month selection – Schloss Vollrads.) We'll let you describe it further! Serve at cellar temperature with white meat, fruit dishes or dess-erts. $4.00/fifth

July 1974 Selection of Imported Wine

Our selections are designed to take the guessing out of wine buying. Our newsletter is designed to enlighten, and the program is geared to bring you exceptional value. Here is a regional Beaujolais to compare with previous ones we have presented. Frank Schoonmaker, the famous wine author and connoisseur says, "As a wine, Brouilly, is one of the most typical and most attractive of the Beaujolais, especially when young; fruity, full-bodied, full-flavored, sturdy, yet soon ready and as compared with other Beaujoleis (Mouline-A-Vent, Morgon, etc.) relatively short lived, it is among the most agreeable red table wines in the world."

Most Brouilly you can buy locally is 1970, 1971 or 1972. We bring you a 1973 which was found by our buyer in the inventory of a small importer. A beautiful young summer red. To your health. $4.19/fifth
