May 1975 Selection of California Wine
DRY CREEK CHARDONNAY 1973
Dry Creek Chardonnay is the dream-come-true of David and Gail Stare. They founded the winery, located about 70 miles north of San Francisco in Healdsburg, about three years ago. Three varietals, Fume' Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, were all enthusiastically received and quickly sold out.
Now their 1973's have been introduced. We've never tasted betters Very fruity, very flowery, pleasantly dry. Partial fer¬mentation is done in new French Limosin Oak to give it a magnif¬icent woody flavor. Minimum fining and filtering delivers the big varietal taste.
Dry Creek produces about 7,000 cases a year with plans to increase to around 20,000. They grow most of their own grapes in the area called Dry Creek but, they also buy grapes and identify the grapes and the growers on the label. This is a welcome sign in the mystery of California wine labeling.
We are fortunate to be one of the few stores personally sel¬ected by the owner to carry their wines. This Chardonnay is a crowning achievement. It will improve with bottle age but, drink it now so you'll know what you're waiting for.
Chill in refrigerator for about three hours before serving. It will compliment any dish.
May 1975 Selection of Imported Wine
COTES du RHONE VILAGES - CUVEE du CHATEAU de ROCHEGUDE 1971
We found this Cotes du Rhone Vilages Rochegude to be of excep¬tional value.
The Rhone valley is a stretch of land approximately 120 miles long extending from Vienne to Avignon in the region of Burgundy and divided down the middle by the Rhone river. The great Rhone's are defined by villages much the same as the great Bordeaux are defined by their regions. Since it is a Burgundy, our Cotes du Rhone exhibits the qualities of fine Burgundies with its character¬istics of light body but a very delightful and fruity flavor.
We are delighted to bring you this excellent value. It is part of our continuing effort to bring you fine imports at reason¬able prices. Open about 1/2 hour before serving. Great with red meats and spicy sauces.
