Gravelly Ford is part of the O'Neill Wine empire. With vineyards up and down the state, they design exceptional wines at exceptional prices. Every wine we've featured from them has received enthusiastic response from our members.
Their winemaker, Mark Rasmussen, has had a remarkable career spanning four decades and still creates wines of distinction for O'Neill. This one is exceptional, as usual.
Because of their impressive holdings, they can draw the best from each vintage to craft their wines. This one came from two distinctive areas, the Sacramento Delta and Lodi. The Delta's warmth provides the power and extract, while the cooler Lodi region supplies the suppleness. Cabernet Sauvignon is the most planted red grape variety on Earth. It is made in every country and in almost every region within each country. It can make a light, charming wine from Italy's north or a powerful, extracted offering from the likes of Pauillac in Bordeaux, California's Napa Valley or eastern Washington State.
Ours crosses a few borders. The blending technique allows Rasmussen to add and adjust, using wines from different sources for his desired goal. In this case, medium body and less alcohol.
The fruit components of cherry and blackberry are evident in the nose and carry through the palate, depositing vanilla and spice along the way. It finishes with reminiscent oak and plum.
