July 1973 Selection of California wine
WEIBEL GREEN HUNGARIAN
Our most successful wine of the month of 1972 is back again. It was such a great hit, that we thought our old and new customers alike would like to try it again. We consider it California's best Green Hungarian. The overall balance, bouquet, taste, and pleasing, lingering after taste, far outdistances the other three main examples of this varietal. Match it with courses of fowl or fish, lamb or pork. Green Hungarian has the ability to retain its light refreshing taste when served chilled, which makes it a natural for patio entertaining on warm summer nights. $2.25/fifth
July 1973 Selection of Imported Wine
CRUSE MEDOC - LA DOME ROUGE
Medoc wines come from the small district along the Gironde River, above the great Haut Medoc of Bordeaux. The wines of this region are known for their consistancy and their ability for long life. As for the wine itself, its deep red color, its fine bouquet and true Bordeaux body are renowned as being some of the best of this district. At the Cruse cellars in Bordeaux, La Dome Rouge has become one of their most exported red wines. The Head Cellarmaster there admits that among the over thirty million hectoliters of the wine bottled, the Cruse La Dome Rouge makes up a large percentage. La Dome Rouge is best when accompanied by red meats or cheese; served at room temperature, 68° to 72°. $4.89/fifth

FOR THE GERMAN WINE BUYER……
At a recent wine tasting/seminar in Long Beach, we got an inside scoop on the Blue Nun price increase. With the introduction of the Magnum (50 oz) in June the people at Sichel had planned a better price separation between the fifth and the Magnum. But due to the price freeze announced in late June, the increase to the consumer must be held to a 10 to 15 per cent raise per fifth. Plus at the time of the seminar, the West Coast Sichel representative admitted that there would probably not be an increase in the Magnum price and no further increases of any kind until after the freeze is lifted. One more thing; be on the lookout for a split of Blue Nun in the very near future.
