This graceful and impressive property is the province of Gonzague and Marjolaine Maurice. It sits on a mountain in the exalted appellation of St. Emilion in the Bordeaux Right Bank. Many of the greatest chateaux in Bordeaux rest here. Marjolaine also directs a property in Margaux on the Bordeaux Left Bank, so you could say they have both banks covered.

As properties go in Bordeaux, this one is relatively new. In 2005, after over 10 years of experience for each of them, Gonzague and Marjolaine purchased the winery and 8 acres of 50-year-old vineyards. The vineyards and winery were in such horrible condition that they could barely make enough wine to survive while they were renovating. But, survive they did, and this selection is a testament to their commitment.

Pavillon is the classic Right Bank blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It's a recipe that has been around for several centuries, but for only one reason: it works. No doubt the properties played with different varietals in different combination, but after a few hundred years, it gets narrowed down to only what works. And this works.

Coming from one of the finest vintages in recent memory, Pavillon is exactly what you would expect. There is the deep, rich dark purple color signaling the dense blackberry and raspberry flavors cloaked in a robe of spice and vanilla.
