Chateau Cotes de Bonde was bought by Colette and Gilles Dignac in 1970. The Dignac family has been in the wine growing business for four generations. They continue to work the fields, harvest, and mature wines from the prestigious terroirs of Pomerol and Montagne-Saint-Emilion. Today the winery is managed by father and son team, Philippe and Stephane. Authenticity and passion are the key words that push them to give you the best wines. Their adage: "We do not inherit the land from our parents, we borrow it from our children," adequately represents their daily commitment to healthy and environmentally friendly production.

The vineyard at Chateau Cotes de Bonde covers 17 hectares. Vines are grassed, a technique that limits yield and causes roots to grow deeper into the limestone soil. This allows the vines to better capture the characteristics of the terroir and reduces the extent of dilution when it rains just before harvesting. Vines are carefully de-leafed to bring a maximum amount of sunlight to the bunches of grapes. The harvest is picked and sorted by hand. Once the grapes are de-stemmed and crushed, the juices and skins macerate for 15-21 days during which fermentation occurs. The wine is then tasted and blended. It is aged in stainless steel vats and fined with egg whites before bottling.

This Chateau Cotes de Bonde is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. It presents an intense purple color and showcases classic aromas of crystallized red cherry and chocolate with integrated tannin structure that will develop over the next 6 years. On the palate, it displays harmonious sensations of density and discernible tannins on the finish. It is ready to open with a meal paired to highlight its well-crafted qualities. Tomatoes à la Provençale or a roasted rack of lamb will pair nicely, as well as venison or Cornish hen, or mature, aged cheeses. If not in the mood to drink now, it will keep 5-10 years.
