Chateau Maucaillou began as a classic fin de siecle estate, with a castle built in 1875 and surrounded by five hectares of vineyards. Brothers Roger and Andre Dourthe arrived at the estate in 1929 and by 1967 the estate had quadrupled in size and, then again, when the second generation, under the leadership of Philippe, acquired vineyards in Moulis. Today Phillipe's children control the estate and take great care and pride in the tradition they've inherited.
The thing that distinguishes the wines of Chateau Maucaillou is rigorous selection of grapes during harvest and meticulous vinification techniques developed in large thermo-regulated vats, and careful maturing allow the development of wines with a sumptuous color. These wines are rich in aromas of concentrated fruit with subtle tannins, with very good balance and length in the glass.
This wine is a bright golden yellow. The nose is aromatic with notes of flowers, boxwood, and lime. The palate strikes a pleasant chord between acid and sweet, and there are even some vegetal and leafy notes. It is a clean and bright outdoor wine that pairs well with a number of dishes. This wine is vegetarian and pescatarian friendly and will pair well with many fresh veggie and fish dishes. Think asparagus risotto or a bright arugula salad as an appetizer. This will also pair nicely with yellowtail sushi for something refreshing, or crab or lobster ravioli with peas for something a little heartier.
