Chateau Parenchere is on the Right Bank of Bordeaux at the crossroads of the Gironde and Dordogne Rivers. It is one of the few ch?teaux there that makes a white wine and we're glad. Of the 200 acres of vineyards only 15 are white grapes, consisting of 70% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 10% Muscadelle. It is interesting to note that those 15 acres are planted on the best and most sun-exposed area on the estate. It's a testament to how much they value their white grapes, and it certainly shows in the wines they produce.

Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon have a synergy between them that very few grapes have, when combined. This is particularly true in Bordeauxs. Many other areas try to emulate their success by using the same combination, but to our knowledge, none have succeeded.

Sauvignon Blanc provides the backbone and acidity while the Semillon and Muscadelle add the aromatics and freshness. Unlike most wineries, Chateau de Parenchere actually ferments the white grapes for a short time on the skins. This is what gives their wine a grip on the palate that is almost as astounding as it is startling. But, it takes a masterful hand to attempt this procedure. We are not only talking literally hours, but also the right amount. So, six hours could be just right while seven hours could be too much. It takes that kind of precision.

The results speak for themselves. The impact of power and freshness, floral and grip are mesmerizing. White peach, chalk, and lemon zest careen through the palate, demanding oysters, scallops or lobster on a plate.
