It is truly mind-boggling to fathom the history of our selection. Consider that the latest generation of owners, Lucie Secret and Geoffrey Ribeiro, are in charge of a Chateau that has been in their family for thirteen generations. Go back that far in California history, and we were sending ships to Europe to bring back cuttings to start a wine industry.
Though both Luci and Geoffrey were born into a family with a very impressive history and stature to uphold, neither took it for granted. They both received advanced degrees, Luci in law, marketing and viticulture and Geoffrey in international trade and enology. Here you have to work for your position; it is not given to you.
The Chateau is located in the Haut-Medoc region, home to most of the classified growths of Bordeaux. Their 50 acres consists of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, which mirrors the blend in the bottle.
Our selection is unique for several reasons. First off, it's from the 2015 vintage, which was a perfect year for making wine here. It is aged for 12 months in new oak barrels to add the complexity and presence we expect from great Bordeaux.
The dense plum and blackberry flavors are counterbalanced by lilting floral notes and a long, dry and penetrating finish. From chateaubriand to pork loin in a mustard/Cognac sauce, Moulin Rouge is as good as it gets.
