Our selection comes from Chateau Cantelaudette, established in the Graves appellation of Bordeaux in 1870 by the Chatelier Family. Graves is one of the few, if not the only appellation, known for its white wines as well as its reds. As a matter of fact, it's not uncommon for the whites from here to fetch a higher price than the reds from the same chateau.

Graves is named after the soil it inhabits. In this case, gravel. It is very rocky and thus provides ample drainage for the vines. It also produces lower yields and thus impacts the bottom line of most chateaux. For reasons unknown, the family stopped producing wine on the property as it invested in other ventures.

It laid abandon until 1984 when Jean-Michel Chatelier and his wife, Laurence, decided to revitalize the chateau. It was an arduous task, but also obviously the Chateliers were up to that task. Today it is a stunning chateau featuring gardens, sanctuaries, and world-class wine.

Like the reds of Bordeaux, the whites are strictly controlled, especially in Graves. The primary grapes can only be Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon with small additions of Muscadelle. Sauvignon Blanc usually plays a more significant role than Semillon, except here. Our selection is 100% Semillon. As a result, the wine is a veritable fruit basket of flavors from fig and coconut to pineapple and peach. It would shine with fresh rainbow trout saut?ed in butter with a touch of caper and lemon.
