Chateau Clou du Pin is a small family estate in the heart of Bordeaux, in the town of Gensac. Part of the Fontana estate, it was founded in 1950 by Mr. Fontana who was later joined by his 4 sons. Still a family business, it is composed of several vineyards which are located in the commune of Gensac in the heart of the highest slopes of the Gironde, only 15 km from St. Emilion. The average annual harvest, depending on the year, is 17,000 hectoliters which represents 2,200,000 bottles. The production represents 85% red wine, 5% rose wine and 10% white wine.

The main objective of the Fontana family is to reach the highest level of quality by making wine sticking to tradition, tinged with modernity and dynamism. Each year the team at the Fontana Estate is awarded medals, confirming that they must be doing something right. Overseen only by the father and four sons, they have experienced great successes for such a small operation.

This Bordeaux Superieur is a blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc, with vinification and aging all done in stainless steel. The wine is classical in style and offers soft, round fruit along with a hint of dusty earth. The nose is elegant, with notes of black and red currant, cedar, and earth. On the palate, this wine is restrained, with hints of fruit such as blackberry, blueberry, and plum. With notes of leather and tobacco and well-balanced acidity, this wine has a long and pleasant finish. When pairing with charcuterie, include pates and terrines, as well as goat and sheep cheeses. This wine will pair well with pulled pork sandwiches, or sweet and spicy pork chops at your next barbecue. The classic and simple steak frites is also a pairing winner.
