Les Gravi?res de Marsac is part of the Crus et Domaines family of growers. The group encompasses 15 ch?teaux in Bordeaux and controls over 1,000 acres of grapes. They have holdings in many of the finest appellations, including Margaux, one of the best there is.

As with our Pey La Tour selection, this dark red wine comes from the exceptional 2014 vintage. The main difference is that it comes from the village of Margaux, home to some of the greatest wineries in the world.

It is aptly named Les Gravi?res, which means gravel. The soil here is so revered that many times it is ingrained in the name of the wine, as is de Marsac. Gravel is one of the most important soil components because of its drainage capabilities.

This bottle of Margaux wine from 2014 is the classic blend of 58% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the gravelly soil and alluvial sea beds that are some of the most prized soils on earth.

The gravel keeps the roots from getting too much water, and the decomposed sea matter provides incredible nutrients for the vines. The result is a healthier vine, which produces more intense grapes.

This is classic Margaux. Enveloping, yet softer, tones of Merlot glide through the palate until the power of the Cabernet emerges as they mix to produce perfection. Soft tannins hold it all in check at the finish.
