The Saby family have been making wine continuously in their prized corner of the Right Bank of Bordeaux for nearly 200 years. Once you see where their properties lie, it's easy to tell how they became so successful. Every single property they own is literally a grape's throw from a very famous appellation. That is how they can make such great wine at such great prices.

For instance, their Chateau Hauchat in Fronsac is barely a quarter mile from Pomerol, one of the most famous wine areas in the world. Our selection is located in Montagne Saint-Emilion, a sub-district of Saint-Emilion, which houses several of the most sought-after and expensive wines made in Bordeaux. The concept here is that while it is not exactly the same soil as their prestigious neighbor, it is quite similar and the climate is usually identical. Similar soil and climate means the wines will be similar in everything except price. The wines of Pomerol are three to four times as much as those of Fronsac. The same percentages apply to those of Montagne Saint-Emilion versus Saint-Emilion.

Our selection presents the most wine you can receive at the price. The classic blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc is the same as it has been for three centuries. The reason is that this blend produces the best wine from this land. That wine consists of voluminous amounts of rich black plum, anise, cherry and earth leading to a ripe finish that is ready to tackle a grilled ribeye or venison rib chop with dried cranberries.
