Not to take anything away from wineries that have been around for a "long" time, like 50 years or so, but Chateau Magnol was founded by the Delisse family back in 1842. That was before the American Civil War. It was purchased by the esteemed house of Barton & Gustier 125 years later. B & G, as they are referred to, was founded in 1725 - or about 50 years before the Revolutionary War. So, we're talking history here.

Magnol is designated as Cru Bourgeois, which by definition implies that it is a better wine than a wine simply labeled Bordeaux. It also comes from the Haut- Medoc, which is a much better wine than a one simply labeled Medoc. Haut means "center" in French and signifies the center of the appellation, which is always considered the best of the area. These laws were meant to help consumers in making decisions on a wine based on its designation. Oddly enough, they are surprisingly accurate.

Magnol is the crown jewel of B & G. It houses one of the finest cooking schools and hotels in Bordeaux, and consistently produces wine of exceptional quality.

This selection's blend is the classic combination of 48% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc. The 2016 vintage represents an outstanding value, as it is cast in the shadow of the incredible wines from 2015, but no less worthy. Here is legendary Bordeaux in all its glory. Optimal density and richness, superb soil, fruit and finish. Exceptional!
