A white wine from Bordeaux is rare - less than 20% of the wines from this region are white. As a result, they tend to be expensive, oftentimes costing more than their red wine counterparts. Our new Bordeaux club is bringing some great finds to our glasses, but it is a special treat for us to feature a white Bordeaux from the Graves appellation - where the best of the best come from.

The name of the appellation, Graves, was chosen because of the gravel in the soil. It's that gravel that makes the wines from this region - red and white - so fascinating, so unique and so enthralling. Chateau Brondelle's vinicultural history dates back to when it was owned by the Dupuy family, who purchased the property in 1846 and built its winery in 1878. The chateau changed hands again in 1927, this time acquired by Louis Turtaut, a descendant of whom is the winegrower today.

Our selection is the classic (appropriately named) blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon. What is so fascinating about these wines is that you can almost taste the gravel in the soil from which these grapes emanated. It is nothing short of magical.

Try this blend of grapes from anywhere else in the world and it won't come close to the flavors from the Graves region. This wine takes on a personality all its own, from the granite and gravel presence to the magical mango, peach nectar and guava, through to the mesmerizing finish of lime zest and lemon peel. It is exhaustingly spectacular in every way.
