Chateau Moulin Caresse has been family owned since its inception in 1749, 40 years before the French Revolution! It is currently run by Jean-Francois and Sylvie Deffarge, along with their sons Benjamin and Quentin.

The chateau consists of 128 acres, located in the southwest part of France at the gateway to the Perigord, overlooking the Dordogne River valley. The Dordogne is the dividing line between the Left and Right Banks of Bordeaux.

"Cent Pour 100" means 100%, which refers to the commitment of Chateau Moulin Caresse to the quality position they inherited. The property is only 10 miles away from Saint-Emilion, and near a large body of water which acts as a temperature moderator, with low seasonal variations. The high content of limestone in the form of clay helps reserve water for the warm, dry summers. These conditions bring on slow ripening and permit the grapes to gain complexity.

The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels to round out these complex flavors. Our selection is a blend of 50% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Caresse adds a touch more Malbec than most wineries, for body and tannin.

The result of all this attention is a classic rendition of the Bordeaux varietals. Notes of black cherry and plum fill the air and prime the senses for a similar sensation on the palate. The dark fruit is lifted by the softening oak cushion and finished off with the medium tannins.
