We've said it before and must reiterate, wines from Lalande de Pomerol are unquestionably the greatest values in Bordeaux. We only wish it were larger so that we could feature more wines from this appellation. Only a small creek separates Lalande from its most famous neighbor, Pomerol, where many of the finest and most expensive wines in the world are produced. When you add the complete renovation of the chateau by vineyard manager, Sebastien Villenave and collaboration with Hubert de Bouard as consulting winemaker, you have the promise of perfection. They deliver on that promise as Bouard is guardian of Chateau Angelus, one of the greatest properties in Bordeaux.

Merlot is king here. It accounts for 86% of the blend with small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. That grape makeup is also common in Pomerol. The important thing is that no Merlot grown anywhere in the world can match the power and majesty of these wines. It is other worldly. You are first drawn to the dark, almost impenetrable color. That is a signal that the wine to follow will be sumptuous and incredible. You won't be disappointed. The lavish robe of black cherry and cassis mixed with earth, dark chocolate and spice are almost dizzying in their virtual command of the palate experiencing this elixir.

Nothing could sit, stand or fly in its way. The imposing, yet regal flavors and textures are worthy of a classic chateaubriand cloaked in a wild mushroom pate casing and finished off wrapped in puff pastry. It doesn't get any better.
