Los Pasos comes to us from the incomparable Spanish sparkling wine producer, Codorniu, who traces their family wine history back to 1551. Josep Raventos, a descendant of Jaume Codorniu, made Spain's first method champenois sparkling wine in 1872 called Cava. Since then Spain has become one of the largest sparkling wine producers in the world.

Codorniu now owns several landmark wineries all over the world. Los Pasos was founded by them in 2001 in Argentina's Mendoza district. With 470 years of practice, it's a good bet they know what they're doing and this incredible selection is ample proof.

Malbec has become almost a national celebrity in Argentina in the last 30 years. Most people never heard of the grape as it's a minor player in Bordeaux. But, when Malbec came to Argentina, it blossomed into one of the most sought-after wines in the world. Nobody is sure why, but the proof is in the glass.

This Malbec is a good example. The marriage between Malbec and Argentina is quite entertaining. In Bordeaux it is hardly used because of its harshness, but can be useful in weak vintages. But, its transformation here is undeniable. It has become Argentina's national grape.

That might have something to do with the fact that it's just delicious. From the blackberry and wild cherry, to the plum and cassis, it's a delight and more, and would shine with an Argentine barbeque of wild boar or marinated flank steak.
