This Cinnamon Grove selection is the work of Purple Wines and Spirits in Sonoma County. Purple Wines is one of the largest and most successful custom crush and production facility in the United States. It was founded by brothers, Derek and Courtney Benham, third-generation wine growers who previously launched Blackstone, one of the most successful brands in history. They sold Blackstone in 2001 and launched Purple Wines.
Obviously, the most important part of the wine is the grapes. So, the first thing you do is identify the best ones. Then what? Then, you have to crush, ferment and age them. The problem with doing that 30 years ago, when the brothers started, was that you basically had to have your own winery, or contract with another winery when they weren't processing their own grapes. Not an easy task, however it did present an opportunity to start in the business. The brothers not only took this opportunity, but have now built a successful operation with state-of-the-art crush facilities in three wineries throughout Sonoma and Napa County.
With these incredibly vast resources and facilities, they were able to craft this engaging selection from Lodi, featuring 50% Viognier, 30% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% each of Orange Muscat and Symphony. The result is a blast of tropical fruit mixed with floral notes and musk to challenge anything from a jerk chicken with fiery chiles or a scallop and shrimp mousse.
