Winemaker, Steve Millier, should know a thing or two about making Chenin Blanc. He made wine for 10 years in the Sierra Foothills, unquestionably the best place to grow Chenin Blanc in California. Just look at most of the labels. All the great ones come from Clarksburg, near the Sierra Foothills.

Just because he became founding winemaker for Ironstone in 1989 didn't mean he forgot how to make Chenin Blanc. As a matter of fact, the Krautz Family, owners of Ironstone Vineyards, planted the first Chenin Blanc in Lodi's Sloughhouse appellation. And guess what appellation Sloughhouse is a sub-appellation of? If you guessed Clarksburg, you win. And, so do we.

Steve has won so many awards, we accused him of having to buy a bigger house just to store them all. While he appreciates all the accolades, it's the wines he produces that interest him most. And none of them spark his interest as much as Chenin Blanc.

Chenin Blanc is the major grape in the central Loire. It is responsible for the exotic Vouvray's and Savennieres that can be poured next to any of the greatest white wines made in the world. Once you've tasted those wines, you'll gain a new respect for this grape, a respect that Steve Millier cherishes.

The complexity here is stunning. From the melon and pear mixed with pineapple, and tangerine in the nose to the guava and honeydew on the palate. Leading to hints of grapefruit in the finish it's almost exhausting. But, deliriously delicious.
