Arroyo Seco Vineyards was founded in 1999 by winemaker Jeffrey Dye and a group of investors who saw a future in Monterey for quality wine production. They could not have timed it better. With properties all over California, they have carved a very wide swath in the wine business, making not only some of the best wines in the state, but easily the best values.
Oak Grove is their reserve line, primarily made from grapes grown on their best sites in Monterey, an area that is both gorgeous and unique. Its lush valleys are known for perfect grape growing conditions. Abundant sunshine by day; cool, ocean fog by night; and ancient alluvial soils give this region a reputation of producing world-class wines. These soils are finely layered, very deep, and primarily recognized for creating exceptionally inexhaustible, grape growing conditions. With farmers who are finely attuned to this region's potential, grapes grown here have a delicious flavor profile.
It is also considered one of the finest areas for growing the Burgundian varietals of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Our selection is an impeccable example. The long, cool growing season allows the flavors to develop, but without high sugar content, which leads to higher alcohols.
Instead you get layers of flavor, expanded by limited oak treatment and held in check with lovely, engaging acidity. Green apple and spice predominate with guava and pear standing by and lemon peel hitting the last note. It's like a ballet on your tongue.
