Carolina Bistue is another superstar winemaker and to top it off, she's a woman winemaker, which is rare. She grew up in the heart of Argentina's wine district, Mendoza, but came to California to earn her Masters in Viticulture and Enology at UC Davis. Upon graduation she sojourned to the up-and-coming Priorat district in Central Spain and made a name for herself as a gifted winemaker. She got the attention of none other than Paul Hobbs, one of the most celebrated winemakers in the world and worked at his winery near her home in Mendoza.
Then an offer to start her own wine operation in California was too good to pass up. So, Carolina headed back to California and traversed the state looking for small vineyards to work with because she wanted to have a say in the growing of the grapes. She partnered with wineries in Lodi, the Sacramento Delta and Napa to make and manage the wines.
Our selection is comprised of 89% Syrah, 7% Grenache and 4% Mourvedre. But, most importantly, the grapes came from the England Shaw Vineyard, located between Napa and Sacramento. It is the same vineyard where Kent Rosenbloom purchased his Syrah grapes, making one of the most popular Syrahs in California. One taste of this blockbuster selection of ours and it's easy to understand why the Syrahs from this vineyard are so well-liked. The age of the vineyard accounts for the lavish spread of berries, leather and tobacco held by luscious tannins and begging for a slow-roasted pork shoulder or a lamb and sausage pasta.
