This amazing selection comes to us from Faustino Gonzalez of Bodegas Martue in Spain's La Mancha region. Employing modern equipment and the most celebrated staff, he produces the most glorious white wines in Spain.
Nieva, which means "snow" in Spanish, is a separate winery from Martue. It is located 100 miles northwest of La Mancha in Rueda, which is considered the capital of white wines in Spain. Gonz?lez makes the classic Rueda white, Verdejo, but also one of the rarest Sauvignon Blancs in Spain. His passion for this grape took him to France where he brought back cuttings from Sancerre in order to emulate the spectacular Sauvignon Blancs from that region. The beauty of his wines is that though emulated, they are not copies. They are his own expression of this spectacular grape.
Nieva boasts 125 acres of vineyards, but only 15 are planted Sauvignon Blancs. It's a testament to the rarity of this wine and how much we appreciate being able to share it with our members.
This selection is a wine for the ages. It's not just its scarcity, but the reflection of one man's passion for it. We love Sauvignon Blancs and there are many great vineyards in the world to find it. But this one is unique. While it shows the telltale peach and nectarine components, there are also tropical and mineral notes that are uniquely Rueda. A classic paella or pan-fried trout would shine nicely with this wine.
