It's hard to believe that Hardy's in South Australia was founded before the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, but Thomas Hardy beat it by two years. Hardy was an English sailor who fell in love with Australia and decided to live there.

At the time, and to a point today, the English was one of the largest groups of wine consumers in the world. The only problem for Hardy was that there were only a handful of wineries in South Australia. He decided to change that.

His simple beginnings turned into a rather large operation with vineyards in South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. The winery has been modernized with the most sophisticated equipment available. Yet, they still honor the past by displaying the original equipment that Thomas Hardy used to make his first vintage in their tasting room.

Shiraz is one of the oldest grapes known to man. It was first propagated and used in the making of wine 5,000 years ago in Mesopotamia. Syrah, as it is called in the Northern Hemisphere, likes hot weather, and must be held to very low yields, around 2-3 tons to the acre. The flavors and aromas of Syrah vary significantly as a result of yields, ripeness, and heat, but when it all comes together, it's magic.

Big and bold in typical Australian fashion, our selection takes charge as the blueberry and wild cherry blend with the earthy tones to match a prime steak on the barbie, rotisserie lamb leg, or garlic sausage.
