3 Girls Pinot comes to us from Oak Ridge Winery, the oldest operating winery in Lodi. Five generations of Maggios have farmed the same land for over 100 years. They first planted grapes there in 1928. The name refers to the three girls in the family whose nicknames are the Mediator, the Instigator, and the Influencer. They tend to keep things in balance and this extends to their wines as well.
Lodi is 60 miles east of San Francisco, but because there is no obstruction in between, it enjoys the cool breeze which comes off the San Pablo Bay. This puts them in a position that no other area in the Central Valley can claim.
The Maggios boast one of the most impressive vineyards in California. Their sprawling 2,500-acre estate contain many acres of vineyards whose vines are more than 100 years old. This virtue accounts for the density of flavor and unique expressions of their wines.
Rob Kammerer has the huge responsibility of caring for the family estate, making sure it is farmed sustainably, using water responsibly and natural pest and weed management. Rob installed drip irrigation systems so he has a leg up on making sure they are as efficient as possible.
Our selection exhibits an almost larger than life expression of Pinot Noir with swashbuckling fruit and body, principally from its aging in 100% new French oak. The classy flavors married to the stunning finish would do a marinated flank steak proud, as well as turkey tetrazzini with shiitake mushrooms.
