Reading about how Red Truck got started sounds like so many other wine stories until you get to the part where the founders are Fred and Nancy Cline. Now Red Truck means something very different. You see, Fred Cline is one of the most revered winemakers in California. Starting in his native Sonoma back in the 70s, Fred was crafting incredible wines and selling them for less than anybody else. Other wineries scoffed, probably because he made them look bad, but we didn't care. We loved Fred and we loved his wines.

The name and label come from a painting they fell in love with showing a classic red truck against billowing clouds. The painting was created by Dennis Ziemienski, an internationally renowned artist based in Sonoma. They purchased it at an auction benefiting the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.

The wine was crafted by John Albaugh, a UC Davis grad, who Fred hired as his winemaker, since he had his hands full with his own winery. Hiring John turned out to be a great choice, as John knew that grapes are a lot like people, they may be from the same family, but they all have a few differences. For this selection, John proudly chose a rare clone of Pinot Grigio called the Tehachapi, which is known for its shy flavors and shyer alcohols.

The lovely guava and apricot essences show off better than most due to the lower alcohol. This allows delicately scented dishes to shine instead of being lost in the wine. Shrimp cocktail or a cheese platter featuring Taleggio and Brillat-Savarin would do quite nicely.
