For 30 years Starmont has been recognized for classically styled varietal wines that are expressive and approachable. Now led by Winemaker Jeff Crawford, Starmont is producing some of their best wines ever as part of the Merryvale Family of Wines. Established as a wine growing region over 150 years ago, Carneros and Napa Valley are world renowned for sustainably growing classic wines.

Jeff Crawford has contributed to new protocols at Starmont that further ensure that the wines are of the highest quality and true to their origins. "In many ways Starmont is a microcosm of the Carneros region," says Jeff. "Our wines are classically balanced and subtle. Structure and evenhandedness are the rule rather than the exception." By sourcing the fruit from different regions of the Napa Valley, each component contributes its own distinct expression to the final blend. Sauvignon Blanc is exceptionally characteristic of where it is grown, each site provides a different character of the varietal. This wine was aged 3 months in neutral French oak barrels and will continue to develop for two years from vintage.

The 2016 vintage was an ideal vintage for Sauvignon Blanc. It started early with a long growing season, and although it cooled down around the beginning of harvest, most of the Sauvignon Blanc was ripe and ready. This wine has a complex nose with nice fresh notes of lime leaf and lemongrass, citrus notes, floral notes of citrus blossom, and tropical notes of guava, lychee, and pineapple. Pair this wine with appetizers like raw oysters, smoked salmon, or young goat cheese. This wine will pair well with a fresh pasta primavera, with asparagus and fresh green peas. Try serving this with grilled pork chops or a roast chicken with green herbs for heartier fare.
